HHS theatre bringing 'Junie B. Jones' to stage

Elementary school can be a fun and care-free time in the life of a youngster. This weekend, Harrisburg High School's theatre department will bring "Junie B. Jones" to the stage in a performance based upon the book series from author, Barbara Park, involving the first-grade adventures of Junie and her friends.

Nearly 20 cast members have been preparing for the show for nearly one month.

"This is a fun show with all kinds of colorful costumes," said director Hannah Drake. "The kids really seem to be enjoying themselves, and we think the audience will enjoy it. There are all kinds of different styles of music about everyday things in the life of a first grader, from getting new glasses, a new lunch box and a loveable lunch lady."

Performance times will be Saturday at 7 p.m. along with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday at the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Southeastern Illinois College.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They will be available for purchase at the door one hour before each performance. For more information phone 618-253-7637 ext. 2169.

Other recent fall HHS theatre productions have included "James and the Giant Peach", "Charlotte's Web and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown."
