Attorney asks for more time in Burns case

The second case against Harrisburg resident Brian Burns has been continued to January it was learned Tuesday after a motion was filed by his attorney, Bryan Drew.

Burns is currently facing charges of solicitation, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, and attempted aggravated kidnapping, which stem from allegations that Burns attempted to pay an undercover Saline County Sheriff's Office detective, David Blazier, $1,000 to kidnap Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw.

Henshaw is currently leading the offensive against Burns in the second case against him - two counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of a body - in connection with the death of Burns' estranged wife Carla, who was residing in Marion at the time of her disappearance.

Burns' attorney, Bryan Drew of Drew & Drew, P.C. in Benton filed a motion to continue in the kidnapping case, citing a need for more time. When asked to elaborate on why the case was being continued, Drew said, "It just is…that's the way it is." The motion was not contested by special prosecutor Matt Gotten.

The case will return to court on Jan. 5, 2017, at 1 p.m. Burns will appear in court for a status hearing on his original charges in December.
