Mildred "Mickey" Rister

SHAWNEETOWN -- Mildred "Mickey" Rister, 87, left this life to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016.

She was born Sept. 16, 1929, and raised in Springerville, Arizona. On May 25, 1945, she married William S. Rister in Olathe, Kansas. They went on to have three sons, Bill, Jim and Alan.

She was a longtime and faithful member of the United Methodist Church. Mickey spent a lifetime caring for others. She was known for her generosity, compassion, graciousness and humbleness.

Survivors include three sons, Billy and wife Sherry of Welsh, Louisiana, Jim of Shawneetown and Alan and wife Vicki of Evansville, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Dawn, Shannon, Amanda, Devon, Erica, Addie, Lindsay, Derek and Ashley; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Malcolm Silva; nieces and nephews; and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Rister; parents, Filimeno and Zella (Maxwell) Silva; sister, Loween; brother, Phil; and grandson, Michael.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with the Rev. Cherrie Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in Hogan Cemetery near Shawneetown. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mickey's memory to Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown.

Mickey's family would like to express gratitude to her caregivers, who Mickey loving called her girls, and to the nursing staff of Hospice of Southern Illinois.
