Harrisburg names new police chief
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">HARRISBURG – Harrisburg City Council named a new police chief Thursday evening.
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Sgt. David Morris is the new police chief as of 6 a.m. Friday. He replaced James “Whipper” Johnson.
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">In a prepared statement, the city cited continued improvement as the reason for the move.
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">“The council would like to see the police department move in a different direction and continue to improve our department in the city,” the statement said. “Officer Johnson is a great police officer and will serve the community better by being back on the streets as a sergeant. Officer Morris will move up as he is the senior police officer to the police chief position.”
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">The statement also praised the police department.
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;">“The council is working hard to make improvements in all our departments. We have a great police department and by all of (us) working together we will continue to improve and move our city forward,” the statement said.
