Alumni Corner: A weekly review of local athletes in college

Tyler Smithpeters - SIU

In a physical matchup with Wichita State and against a sell out crowd at the Arena Saturday, Smithpeters had just one point in a 83-58 loss to the Shockers in a first place battle in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Smithpeters played 15 minutes as the former Harrisburg standout and Saluki junior was in foul trouble most of the game. He was 0-for-2 from the field and 1-for-2 from the foul line, while grabbing one board, coming away with one steal and finishing with two turnovers.

Southern is now 14-3 on the season and 3-1 in MVC play.

Capel Henshaw - Lewis

Henshaw got the start for the Flyers, dropping 13 points, as Lewis knocked off Missouri S&T 84-80 Saturday night.

Henshaw was 4-of-13 from the field and 4-of-11 from beyond the arc, while going 1-for-2 at the line.

The former Harrisburg all star had two rebonds and one turnover in 38 minutes of action. Henshaw played the most minutes of any Flyers as they improved to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in GLVC play.

Andrew Drone - Rice

Drone was perfect from the field, going 4-for-4, scoring 11 points, but it wasn't enough as Rice fell; 85-80 to University of Texas-San Antonio recently.

Drone also went 1-for-1 from the free throw line, pulled down two rebounds and had one block in 15 minutes of action for the Owls.

Rice is now 5-10 on the season and 0-2 in Conference USA play and returns to action Thursday at home against Western Kentucky.
