JUCO Hoops: Logan men roll to win at Lewis & Clark

Five players hit for double figures Saturday afternoon to lead the John A. Logan College men's basketball team to a resounding 86-66 road win over Lewis & Clark College.

With the win, the Volunteers improve to 7-1 in Region 24 play and 15-1 overall. The Trailblazers fall to 1-7 in the region and 5-10 overalll.

Leading only 38-35 at the half, Logan went on a 20-4 run to start the second half, in essence putting the game away.

"When we have energy and play very hard, we're very good," said Vols head coach Kyle Smithpeters. "When you put up 86 points, that's going to win a lot of ballgames. Defensively, we're getting better and we have to keep chipping away at the mistakes we make on that end of the floor. That's exactly what we did in the second half."

The Vols were led offensively by shooting guard Jalen Perry, who poured in 21 points, including a perfect 3-of-3 from long range. Devontavius Payne and Michael Tucker followed with 14 points apiece. Ranell Crossland finished with 11 and Tamas Bruce added 10.

As a team, the Vols connected on 31-of-64 shots from the field, including 9-of-21 triples. Logan was 15-of-26 from the free-throw line. The Vols also won the rebounding battle, 40-to-31 as Bruce led the way with nine,

Logan returns to action Wednesday at home against Kaskaskia. Game time is set for 7 p.m. It will be "Carterville Night" at the college as the high school band, cheerleaders and poms will all perform.

All residents of the Unit 5 school district will gain free admission to the games and all students of the district will get a free popcorn and soda compliments of The Bank of Herrin.
