Prep Hoops: Gallatin Co. comeback falls short against Goreville

Down, but never really out, Gallatin County put the ball in the hands of its Mr. Do-Everything in the winding moments of Saturday's game with Goreville at the Rich Herrin Shootout.

With just 43 seconds left on the clock, Gallatin County's Seth Ramsey pulled up from just behind the top of they key and his shot fell off the back of the iron.

A made bucket would have given Gallatin County a 46-45 lead, the miss resulted in a 49-43 loss to the Blackcats at Rich Herrin Gymnasium.

"He had the option of going off the two-man game of taking the three," Gallatin County head coach Doug Miller said. "I told him, we can take the two and tie it up or get the three and go up by one. It was a good shot. It was the first best shot, he was wide open and had a good look, it just didn't fall."

Miller said his Hawks, who he said were intimidated by Goreville's size, dug a little hole for themselves in the first quarter and then as Miller said, "the game came down to free throws, just like it always does for us."

The Hawks shot 33 percent from the free throw line, going 5-for-15, while Goreville shot 75 percent from the line, knocking down 12-of-16 shots.

Ramsey finished with 17 points on the day, while Audie Goebel tacked on 12 to also finish in double figures. Robbie Prince added eight points, while Patrick Clark, Logan Lane and Luis Rubio all and two points.
