Prep Baseball: Swinging a good stick leads to scholarship for Hathaway

Stanton Hathaway says that his swinging a bat comes naturally to him.

The Eldorado High School senior took his strength and used it to sign a National Letter of Intent and will continue his career at the upstart Frontier Community College in nearby Fairfield next season.

"My strength is my hitting," Hathaway said. "It's something that comes naturally to me."

Hathaway recently signed on the dotted line to become a member of the Bobcat baseball team with his parents Gary and Julie, along with Frontier Community College coaches Jeff Baker, Hunter Bryan and Rob Vaughn at EHS.

Hathaway cited a mutual respect between himself and the coaches as a primary reason for choosing Frontier.

"They are a first year college and coach Baker saw me last year when we played at Fairfield. He said he really liked my performance then and we talked just a few weeks before I signed."

Hathaway noted its a big relief to get the signing out of the way as he heads into his senior season.

"It's a big relief," he said. "Going into my senior year it was a little scary because I didn't know if I was going to sign anywhere, so it feels good to get it off my chest right now."

While Hathaway knows one of his strengths is his ability to swing a good stick, he also knows he will have to make strides in regards to base running.

"My weakness is my speed. I have to be smart when I'm on base. I can't just steal like the faster kids on the team."

Hathaway said while at Frontier, he plans on majoring in teaching.
