Prep Baseball: Bulldogs Bedeviled

The wind was howling Tuesday at Harrisburg, but the Bulldogs' offense was rather quiet in a 6-0 loss to Warren Township at Dorris Heights.

Harrisburg (2-1) managed just two hits on the day of Blue Devil starter Ryan Davila.

Bryce Emery led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and it wasn't until the bottom of the fourth when Noah Vallette had the other single for Harrisburg.

Vallette was also the pitcher of record for the Bulldogs, picking up the hard luck loss, after a 10 strikeout performance on the day. Vallette issued two walks and gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Christian Williams came on in relief and lasted just 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits, while Patrick Bittle worked 2/3 of an inning.

Vallette's performance wasn't lost on Harrisburg head coach Jay Thompson.

"Noah pitched fantastic. He threw really well today and that is just a big boost for us. What he showed today was a guy that has a chance against a good team. I was really excited for him and I thought he did a good job."

Warren Township scored a run in the first and second inning and Harrisburg looked to threaten in the fourth after Vallette's lead off single past third. He moved to second on a wild pitch, but was stranded as the Blue Devils worked themselves out of the inning.

If anything stands out from Harrisburg's first loss of the season, Thompson said his bunch has to tighten things up defensively.

"We are a little loose right now. We need to be better at that. The other thing, I thought some of our better hitters had good swings today, I was really happy with that."

Harrisburg is scheduled to play host to Vernon Hills at Rent One at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Eldorado 12, Pope County 1

Adam Ninness was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple with a pair of RBI and runs scored and Jacob Traxler was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Carmi-White County 16, Gallatin County 0

Gallatin County managed just three hits on the day in a 16-0 loss to Carmi-White County Monday.

Kory Hise went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Thomas York was 1-for-3.

On the mound, the Hawks used four different pitchers in the loss as Patrick Clark went one inning, giving up three runs (none earned). Audie Goebel went 2/3 of an inning, allowing 8 runs (six earned) and walked four. Hunter Walters pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) and walked four, while Nathan Shults went one inning and allowed no runs.

"We didn't make our routine plays and fell behind just about every batter, resulting in a lot of walks and hard hit balls," Gallatin County head coach Mark Hiller said. "Carmi is a good team and they caused in on their opportunities. I give Carmi a lot of credit for taking advantage of our mistakes."

After playing Norris City-Omaha-Enfield on Tuesday, Gallatin County will host Galatia on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
