Prep Softball: Rise & Shine

The Harrisburg offense was proficient, scoring eight runs on eight hits in an 8-5 Wednesday morning win over Chicago Mundelein.

Bulldog sophomore right hander Matty Hawkins improved to 3-1 with a complete game performance. She gave up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, while walking two and striking out one.

"Matty did a good job of making pitches she had to make and the defense backed her up," Harrisburg head coach Red Stafford said.

At the plate, Abby Dalton, Karsyn Davis, Raelynn Boma, Matty Hawkins, Mckenzie Marshall, Claire McDermott, Madeline Rider and Gillian Jones all had one hit. Davis, Boma, Hawkins, Marshall and McDermott all had an RBI.

The key to success Wednesday was the ability to get the bunt down for the Bulldogs.

"We did a good job of bunting the ball and using our speed today," Stafford said. "That's how we were able to score eight runs on eight hits. They're a solid ball club. The only thing they didn't do, was handle our bunts real well. Other than that, they're a good ball club."

Harrisburg improves to 3-1 on the season and will play host to Pope County (today) Thursday and then will host Eldorado on Friday, before playing in a double header at Goreville Saturday.
