Prep Softball: Bulldogs drop a pair over weekend

It was a back-and-forth weekend for the Harrisburg softball team that saw them knock off cross country rival Eldorado Friday and then fall twice to Goreville over the weekend in a see-saw battle in the finale of a double header Saturday.

Harrisburg knocked off Eldorado 5-3 and then lost to Goreville 8-3 and 15-13 in a wild eight inning affair.

In the win over the Eagles, Alli Ferrell (2-1) came on in relief of Matty Hawkins, who went 1 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs on five hits.

Ferrell finished the final 5 2/3, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Abby Dalton drove in three runs, while doing 2-3, as did, Mckenzie Sullivan and Brittany Hutchison.

Karsyn Davis also had three RBI on the day, going 1-for-3, while RaeLynn Boma was 1-for-4 and Madeline Ride finished 2-4.

The Eagles were led by Caitlin Stafford and Derian Corn, who each went 2-for-3, as did Charlie Lowery. Corn had an RBI on the day, while Olivia Parker was 2-for-4. Madison Newton and Rachel Stafford both had a hit with Stafford driving in one.

Eldorado jumped out to an early three run lead after the first inning, but the Bulldogs rallied for five runs in the third inning and tacked on three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Eagles closed out the game with three runs in the seventh inning.

In the Game 1 loss at Goreville, Hawkins dropped to 3-2 on the season as the sophomore right hander went the distance.

She gave up eight runs (five earned) on 13 hits, striking out one, while walking two.

At the dish, Davis was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Rider went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Harrisburg scored first, plating a run in the first inning, but Goreville responded with a two-run third, followed by a run in the fourth inning and five in the sixth. The Bulldogs scored one run in the sixth and seventh inning.

In the Game 2 loss, Ferrell went 7 1/3, giving up 15 runs (10 earned) on 20 hits with one walk. Hawkins came on in relief and gave up two hits and one walk.

Sullivan went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Hutchson and Davis were at 2-for-4. Davis had a two-run home run and a double as the freshman finished with three RBI. Mckenzie Marshall also had three RBI, including a three-run bomb and a double, going 2-for-5 on the day, while Boma was 2-for-3 and Abby Dalton was 2-for-5.
