Prep Softball: Bulldogs win big over Hamilton Co.

Matty Hawkins improved to 4-2 on the season in the circle for Harrisburg, striking out 14 in a 11-1 win over Hamilton County in non-conference softball action.

Hawkins went the distance, faced 23 batters and allowed one runs on four hits with two walks in the win.

At the dish, Harrisburg had 12 hits on the day as Mackenzie Sullivan, Brittany Hutchison and Karsyn Davis all went 2-for-5. Sullivan had three RBI on the day, while Hutchison had one. Mackenzie Marshall also had three RBI for Harrisburg as she went 1-for-4, as did, Abby Dalton, who finished with an RBI.

Gillian Jones and Mckenzie Payne both went 2-for-2.

Harrisburg made no errors on the day and HHS head coach Red Stafford said that was the difference in the ballgame.

"We talked about having to pitch better and play better defense and I felt like Tuesday we did that," Stafford said. "We did a good job of putting the ball in play and making Hamilton County handle it and with our speed, we can put a lot of pressure on teams.

Harrisburg is scheduled to play at Eldorado Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. and will play in a round robin Saturday at Pope County with Union County, Ky., starting at 11 a.m.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort 7, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield 2

Lexi Winchester went 3-for-4 at the plate for Carrier Mills-Stonefort in a 7-2 Greater Egyptian Conference win Tuesday.

Tierra Godsey went 2-for-3 at the dish for the Wildcats, while Jessica Dunn, Renata Godsey and Sienna Figg all went 1-fo-3. FIgg had two stolen bases on the day.

<span>Megan Thomason had seven strikeouts and two walks picking up the win in the circle for the Wildcats.

"Timely hitting, zero errors and hustle were keys to the win," CMSF head coach Scott Figg said.
