Alumni Corner: A weekly review of local athletes in college

Matthew Phipps - Olney Central

Phipps has played in 26 games with 52 at bats and had 18 hits, 24 runs scored and 15 RBI on the season.

The former Harrisburg standout is hitting .346 with an on-base percentage of .513 and is slugging .577. He is third on the team in slugging and OBP and the ninth best batting average for the Knights.

On the mound, the freshman has pitched in seven games and is 3-1 on the season with a 6.10 ERA.

Phipps has 19 strikeouts to go along with five walks, while giving up 16 runs (14 earned) on 30 hits.

Drew Novara - SIU

Nova finished in a tie for 64th with a two day total of 156 (80-76) at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio on the campus of Ohio State University this past weekend.

The Murphsyboro native helped the Saluki men's golf team to a 11th place finish out of 16 teams.

Up next for SIU is the Boilermaker Invitational this weekend in West Lafayette, Ind.

Kyle Landon - SIU

Landon cleared 7-feet-3 to win the high jump at this past weekend's Tiger Track Class at Auburn University's Outsell-Rosen Track. The Chester native's clearance is the third-best in the NCAA West Region and tied for the fourth-best in the nation to date.

Lindsey Murray - Ole Miss

Murray earned a third-place finish in the pole vault at this past weekend's Tiger Track Class at Auburn University's Outsell-Rosen Track by clearing a height of 13-feet-7.25.

The Rebels return to the track at the Texas Invitational on Saturday, April 16.

Taylor Goodley - Austin Peay

Goodley who had APSU's best round Saturday, shot a 75 to end at 236 (79-82) at the Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky., over the weekend.

That also gave the Eldorado native a Top-10 finish, landing her in an eighth-place tie.

Ashton Goodley - Auston Peay

Goodley, who was solid Friday, struggled to an 86 on Saturday at the Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky., over the weekend. Goodley had the team's best opening round (78) and ended the day with an 80, leaving her tied for 15th.

The Goodley twins and the APSU women's golf team now will have a week to prepare for the OVC tournament before heading to Alabama next weekend for Sunday's practice round at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
