Prep Softball: Redbirds come back to bite Harrisburg

The back-and-forth season continues for the Harrisburg softball team as they dropped a 5-1 Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Ohio Division loss to West Frankfort Friday at home.

The Bulldogs, who now sit 11-6 overall and 1-3 in league play, had just five hits on the day.

Brittany Hutchison was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Mckenzie Sullivan, Madeline Rider and Abby Dalton all had one hit.

Harrisburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but fell victim to defensive miscues that ultimately cost them the game.

In the circle, Matty Hawkins took the loss, as the sophomore right hander dropped to 8-5 on the season. Hawkins went the distance, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Earlier in the week, Harrisburg posted a 4-0 shut out against Zeigler-Royalton in a game that Stafford said is one of the best his Bulldog bunch has played all season, while on Tuesday, Harrisburg dropped a 10-0 game on the road at Herrin.

On Monday, Harrisburg is scheduled to play host to Massac County at 4:30 p.m. and then will host Benton On Tuesday.
