Prep Track & Field: Carrigan grabs second at state

For the second straight season Kane Carrigan took home a medal at the IHSA State Track and Field Meet.

For the second straight season, Carrigan finished second in the discus to eventual state champion and Carbondale's Sam Sikon.

Carrigan had a heave of 168-feet-11 in the discus, bettering his mark of a 165-feet from a year ago.

Carrigan was sitting in the first place after Friday's first round, but Harrisburg head coach Zach Cox said that like a golf swing, Carrigan just couldn't square anything up on the center Saturday.

"He pulled a couple down the left side and the last one down the right side. We talked about needing to improve on Saturday and were never really able to center up a throw.

"I'm very happy for him," added Cox. "He deserved every bit of what he achieved. I wish for him - more than anything - we could have taken home the championship. He just didn't have his best on Saturday."

Also competing in Charleston, but not advancing to the finals on Saturday were the 4x200 meter relay team of Chris Williams, Dustin Lane, Corbin Crim and Cody Rightnowar.

Rightnowar, who advanced out of the Carterville Sectional in the 300 intermediate hurdles, also did not advance to Saturday's championship day.
