American Legion: Take Two

The Harrisburg American Legion baseball team took two from Carrier Mills Post 354 in a double header Sunday at Gibbs Field.

After Harrisburg Post 167's Bryce Emery and Carrier Mills' Loren Whiting treated fans to a classic pitcher duel that resulted in a 2-1 win for Harrisburg, Post 167 took Game 2 3-1, behind a three hitter from Noah Vallette.

Vallette picked up the win, going four innings and striking out four. Jordan Gould came on in relief for Harrisburg and gave up one run on two hits with six K's on the day.

Colton McCree suffered the loss for Post 354 in Game 2 as the Crab Orchard High School product allowed three runs on five hits.

At the plate, Post 167 had seven hits on the day as Emery led the charge with two. Vallette had one hit with an RBI, while Austin Hefner, Patrick Bittle, Drew Woolcott and Adam Ninness each had one.

For Carrier Mills, they had five hits and managed one run in the sixth inning on a double by Anthony Kalodner and an RBI single by Whiting.

Carrier Mills is slated to travel to Capaha Park in Cape Girardeau tonight (Tuesday) for a double header starting at 6 p.m. On Thursday, Post 354 will play a double header at Eddyville, Ky., and Saturday Carrier Mills will be at Charleston, Mo in a double header, starting at 1:30 p.m.

Harrisburg will host Metropolis Wednesday in a single game at 6 p.m. and then play at Evansville Funkhouser on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a double header at Carmi on Sunday, starting at 2 p.m.
