American Legion: Coming Together

The Harrisburg American Legion baseball team took a pair of games from Metropolis Sunday, winning 6-4 and 7-4.

Post 167 is now on a five-game win streak, which started last Thursday at Benton and now stand 9-3 overall and 6-2 in District 24.

In the first game, Bryce Emery struck out nine on the mound and allowed four runs on seven hits.

At the dish, Post 167 scored six runs on nine hits. Austin Hefner had two, while Noah Vallette, Patrick Bittle, Britton Riden, Presley Gauch, Josh Pilkington and Emery all had one.

In game two, Harrisburg pounded out 14 hits as Emery led the charge with three.

Jordan Gould, Bittle and Vallette each had two, while Drew Woolcott, Hefner, Ninness, Gauch and Pilkington all had one.

Harrisburg head coach Doug Emery said that while he is seeing his team start to put things together defensively, he also sees his squad coming together as a more complete team.

"I was very pleased again with our effort all weekend as this team is starting to gel," Emery said. "I look forward to seeing what we can do in the tournament coming up in a few weeks. I also want to thank the Sons of American Legion for sponsoring this team and help bringing this group together. They are fun to watch."

Post 167 will play Benton Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Gibbs Field and host Evansville at 1 p.m. Saturday.
