Prep Golf: Going In Different Directions

Postseason: Ben Fowler and Patrick Bittle both advanced to last year's IHSA Sectional

Coach: Steve Black, 2nd Year

Key Losses: Ben Fowler, Patrick Bittle, Alexa Burtis and Skyler Street

Top Returners: Garrett Jenkins, Camden Schiff, Ali Ferrell and AnnaBella Robinson

Strengths: The Harrisburg boys' golf team doesn't have enough players to make a team. Head coach Steve Black said the trick now is to get his only two players, Garrett Jenkins and Camden Schiff in as many tournaments and triangular matches as possible.

"Garrett is a four year player and he should have a good year this year," Black said. "This will be Camden's third year and he should show some improvement. Garrett has a chance, if he continues to play well, to get to Sectionals.

On the girls' side, Black said there is excitement surrounding the program with returners Ali Ferrell and AnnaBella Robinson. Black has three newcomers, Mikayla Riggs Gabby Adams and Madeline DeNeal

"They are pretty gung-ho about things right now," Black added. "We just have to continue to get some experience and the scores should improve. I think our strength on that side is looking forward to next year when we should have more experience."

Weakness: (Boys) No Team - "The fact that we don't have enough to make a team really hurts us," Black said. "A couple of teams have already canceled matches because we don't have a full team."

(Girls) Experience - Or the lack there of. Harrisburg does;t have much on the girls side with only Ferrell and Robinson returning from last year.

Biggest Improvement From Last Year: On the boys side, another year of maturity and being more experience. On the girls' side, still learning the game and become better at course management.

What Does It Take To Have A Successful Season: Boys - "We're not going to win a match because of no team score, but Garrett and Camden are shooting toward conference regional and sectional," Black said. Girls - "We just want to get better, gain that experience, practice and learn how to play."
