Prep Girls Hoops: Galatia girls stumble in season opener

Galatia head coach Denise Clayton has no qualms admitting that every game her Bearcats will learn more about who they are as a team. That education started Monday night at the Hamilton County Invitational with a 52-13 loss to the host Foxes.

Hamilton County scored 10 points from the free throw line and 18 points off offensive rebounds.

"This is our first year playing a man-to-man defense and the girls not used to going to their player and blocking out. They are use to blocking out from a 2-3 zone. We learned a lot from our first game."

Mallory Mays had a pair of field goals and finished with five points, while Kennedy Harris also had two field goals for four points. Kassidy Rizor, a senior, finished with three points, while Kelsi Watson had a free throw for Galatia.

Galatia returns to action Friday and will play Bluford at 7 p.m., followed by a pair of games Saturday, where the Bearcats will face Wayne City at 11 a.m. and play Lawrenceville at 6:30 p.m.
