EHT: Redbirds advance to consolation championship, Herrin knocks off Anna-Jonesboro

West Frankfort kicked off Day 2 of the Eldorado Holiday Tournament by eliminating Hamilton County 50-46.

The Redbirds got a game-high 22 points from Noah Allen, while teammate Austin Glodich also finished in double figures with 13 points.

Oakley Dial dumped in a team-high 17 points for Hamilton County and was the only Fox to finish in double figures.

Massac County 79, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield 49

It was a high-octane offense from Massac County, fueled by 28 points from Isaiah Thompson and another 24 points from Darian Roundtree that led the Patriots to a 79-49 win over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Tuesday on the consolation side of the EHT bracket.

To boot, the Patriots out rebounded NCOE 46-19 as Roundtree had a team-high seven and Thompson accounted for six.

It was a nice bounce back win for Joe Hosman and company who were stunned by Gallatin County Monday night.

NCOE, which lost to Fairfield to Monday, got 25 points from 6-foot-1 senior Matt Long and another 14 points from Cooper Wells.

Vienna 61, Hardin County 44

Vienna sent Hardin County home from the Eldorado Holiday Tournament as the Eagles pushed their overall record to 7-25 in the EHT with a 61-44 victory.

Vienna was led by 16 points from Ben Daine and was joined in double figures by Lucas Strickland with 14 points.

Hardin County led 18-10 after one quarter and took a 25-21 lead into the locker room, but the Eagles outscored Hardin County 24-4 in the third quarter to build a 45-29 lead going into the game's final eight minutes.

Hardin County got a team-high 16 points from Hunter Cullum and are now 18-58 in the EHT.

Herrin 68, Anna-Jonesboro 46

Herrin knocked down 10 3-pointers, including seven from Bronson Nesler, to take down No. 8 seed Anna-Jonesboro, 68-46, in Tuesday's quarterfinals of the 52nd annual Eldorado Holiday Tournament.

Junior Jake Parr had 23 points in a losing effort for Anna-Jonesboro (5-8).

"We just never could get over that hump," Anna-Jonesboro head coach Mike Chamness said. "Herrin was able to do what good teams do and expand on that lead. They ended up getting it to 16 or 18, and we just never could get over the hump."

After a two-year absence from the EHT, the Tigers (7-2) are still in search of their first ever tournament crown at Duff-Kingston Gym. They finished second in 2011 and third in 2009 and 2010.

Herrin will meet No. 5 seed Carmi at noon Wednesday in a semifinal.

Anna-Jonesboro will play Harrisburg at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in a fifth-place semifinal.

West Frankfort has its chance to win its first-ever consolation championship Wednesday after eliminating Union County, Ky. 68-46 in the Redbirds' second win of the day.

Noah Allen had a team-high 13 points, while Austin Glodich tacked on 12 for West Frankfort.

Union County's Elex Dunford had a team-high 10 points as the Braves leave the EHT with their best showing coming in 2013 when they finished fourth.

Edwards County, Union Co., Ky. posts late wins Monday

Edwards County, playing in its first Eldorado Holiday Tournament, made a nice statement with a 61-55 win over Black Diamond Conference foe Vienna Monday night at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.

The Lions put three players in double figures, led by a game-high 17 points from 6-foot-6 big man Nathaniel Schmittler.

Cade Schnicker finished with 14 points for Edwards County, while Justin Wallace tossed in 12 points.

Vienna also finished with three players in double digits as Ben Daine had a team-high 12 points, while Lucas Strickland and Brandon Casey each had 10 points.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort was sent home in Monday night's red-eye elimination game, falling to Union County, Ky. 81-69.

The Wildcats got a team-high 25 points from Justice Hill, while Brody Walker dumped in 20 and Will Gibbs tacked on 10 in a losing effort.

Union County's Elex Dunford nearly put himself in elite company, scoring a game-high 36 points, helping the Braves stave off elimination.

Also notching double figure scoring for Union County was Logan Thomas (14) and Kale Gaither (12)
