Two children from Gallatin County were killed Thursday in a vehicle accident near Poseyville, Ind.

Jamie Hult, 7, and Kerrigan Dotson, 12, both of Equality, were passengers in a minivan on Interstate 64, who were ejected from their van and pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police reported the crash took place at 4:16 p.m. when a van driven by Charles Hult, 59, also of Equality, tried to pass two tractor-trailers. The report indicated the second tractor-trailer moved into the passing lane, causing Hult to lose control of his vehicle. Hult's vehicle left the roadway on its left side, lost control, came back on the roadway and struck the first tractor-trailer, according to a state police report. The mini-van then left the roadway, crossed the median and stuck a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Robert Fester, 46, Pineville, N.C.

Charles Hult and his wife, Margaret Hult, were taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. with injuries. Two other children, Joshua Hult, 13, and Lauren Hult, 10, were also injured and taken to Deaconess Hospital.

The drivers of the tractor-trailers were not injured, according to state police reports. The tractor trailer police say caused Charles Hult to lose control was driven by James Wright, 61, Newburgh, Ind. He was cited on a charge of improper lane usage.

An investigation into the accident is continuing, according the Indiana State Police.
