</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[George Richard Young Sr., 94, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010.
He was born on July 8, 1915 in Philadelphia, Pa., to Albert and Matilda Young. Due to the unfortunate early death of his father, he grew up with his two brothers in Girard College, while his sisters remained at home.
From an early age he began to develop strength of character through academics, track, and gymnastics. He attended college in Newport News, Va., where he studied to become a drafting engineer.
He is most well known as Bro. George Young of Gospel Assembly Church. He entered the ministry under the direction of William Sowders and, throughout his life, pastored seven different churches with his wife Wilma (Jones) Young at his side. Unfailingly patient as he was kind, he touched the lives of numerous people. He knew not a stranger and yet was reserved by nature.
He is survived by his sister, Katherine Christy of Phoenix, Ariz.; his son, George R. Young Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sherry; his daughter, Catherine L. (Young) Hoopes and son-in-law, Mark; granddaughter, Heather D. Houseright; and grandsons, Jason R. Houseright and Joshua R. Young.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his parents; two brothers, Albert and Henry; and one sister, Freda Lentz.
Above all, he loved God, he loved his family, and he loved to study his Bible. Were he here, he would undoubtedly say that he was truly blessed, and then he would ask you if you believed in God and where you went to church.
Funeral services will be held at the Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
