Seagraves celebrated his 40th year working at the Eldorado post office Tuesday. He started as a mail carrier and became a clerk in 1984.
Seagraves has witnessed many changes over his years working at the post office.
"Things have changed dramatically," said Seagraves.
When he first started working there, the Eldorado post office employed around 17 people. Since then, the number of employees has decreased to around eight, and most of them are employed part-time.
Additionally, Seagraves has seen the volume of mail coming through the post office decrease over the years.
In his 40 years working at the post office, Seagraves has dealt with many angry customers and has accumulated lots of interesting stories about his job. He told of one winter when it was particularly snowy and he slipped while carrying mail.
"Me being a short feller, I was up to my armpits in snow," said Seagraves.
At the age of 61, Seagraves plans to work at the post office for another year, then retire. He does have a little advice for anyone planning to work in a post office. It is the same advice Seagraves' boss gave him when he was first hired.
"When dealing with an angry customer, step back away from the counter. Their arms can't reach that far," said Seagraves, with a smile on his face.
Overall, Seagraves has enjoyed his time working at the post office and serving the friendly people of Eldorado, but is looking forward to retirement.
"I've worked here a long time and I've made a lot of friends," said Seagraves.
