Obituary: Kenneth Dale 'K Buck' Buchanan

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Kenneth "K Buck" Buchanan, 71, of Barlow, Ky., passed away peacefully 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

He was born Jan. 12, 1941, to Kestner and Addie (Reynolds) Buchanan in Lusk, Pope County. Kenny was raised in Dutton Chapel Church and was of Baptist faith. Early in life he enjoyed racing his 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, he was an avid deer hunter, and Pope County Pirate fan. He loved all his family and was especially proud of his grandkids. In November of 1982 Kenny was elected as the Democrat candidate to serve in the office of County Commissioner of Pope County and was elected Chairman of the Board in 1985. He was an organizer and a member of the Pope County Nine Day Trail Ride. He was a past member of the Golconda Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Golconda Masonic Lodge No. 131, 32nd degree Mason and Shawnee Shrine Club. He was a livestock dealer and horse trader. He was a heavy equipment operator at the Minerva Mine in Rosiclare. Later, Kenny worked over twenty years and retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He is survived by two sons, Mike and wife Kim Buchanan of Harrisburg and Tim and wife Iris Buchanan of Murphy, N.C.; daughter, Kelley and husband Mike Rison of Golconda; love of his life for over four years, Judy Purcell of Barlow, Ky.; five grandchildren, Blake Buchanan, Bryleigh Buchanan, Corey Rison, Zachary Rison and Jacob Rison; stepgrandson, Travis and wife Crystal Chastain; great-stepgrandchildren, Hailey and Hayden Chastain; four brothers, Bruce and wife Marie Buchanan of Peoria, Robert and Sharon Buchanan of Herod, Kendall and Sharon Buchanan of Golconda and Carl and Kathy Buchanan of Golconda; four sisters, Laverne and husband Ken Willson of Clarkston, Mich., Linda and husband Steve Cummings of Golconda, Sandra and husband Steve Dailey of Marion, Janet and husband Tom Taylor of Golconda; several nieces and nephews; Judy's two sons, Jeff and wife Sissy Purcell, Brian and wife Korrie Purcell, and their children, Mason and Bobby Purcell and many trail ride friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Buchanan.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. July 7, 2012 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Golconda. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 6 with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at Aly Funeral Home, Eddyville.
