Du Quoin fireworks are Wednesday at fairgrounds
Du Quoin Tourism in cooperation with the City of Du Quoin and the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds are sponsoring the annual fireworks display at the fairgrounds at dusk Wednesday evening, July 3.
The display will be on the back side of the Magic Mile and can be seen from anywhere on the grounds.
Both driving safety and family fireworks safety are all-important on the grounds.
Steeleville
One of the area's largest celebrations is in Steeleville. which began on Monday. It runs through Thursday, July 4; and includes the Jaycee's Arts and Crafts Show, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Thursday, July 4, inside the American Legion Hall, 303 S. Chester St.; carnival; food stands; music; beer stand and poker stand; parade, 10 a.m. July 4; fireworks, 10 p.m. Thursday.
Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon will host Salute to Freedom Thursday, July 4, at the Mount Vernon Airport; gates open 5 p.m.; chalk art contest with prizes; entertainment, food vendors, children's activities and a massive fireworks display, dusk.
Murphysboro
Murphysboro's annual festival will include American Legion baseball, Thursday, July 4 and music at the Riverside Band Shell with fireworks at dusk at Riverside Park.
