Harold D. Holland
Harold D. Holland, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:24 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Harold had been an electrician at Consol Burning Star #4 Coal Mine at Jamestown. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. He was a 60-year member of the Du Quoin Masonic Lodge 234 and had been past Master of the Lodge. He was also a member of and past President of UMW of A Local 1825. Harold had also been a member of the Du Quoin City Council from 1960 until 1964 and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He had also been Vice Chairman of the Central Republican Committee.
He was born Oct. 1, 1932 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Benjamin F. and Elsie P. (Nevill) Holland.
He married Virginia L. Moye on June 27, 1953 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Lee Swayze and husband James of Carbondale, one step granddaughter - Kallie Bishop and husband Daniel of Mascoutah, three step great grandchildren - Gabriel James Bishop, Dominik Josef Bishop and Charlotte Anne Bishop, adopted sister - Mona Raye Rees of Du Quoin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law - Karen and David House of Du Quoin, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Masonic services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Private family burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin at a later date with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may make memorials to Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life, Du Quoin Food Pantry or Perry County Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
