OBITUARY: Jewell Aileen Wiseman Baldwin
Jewell Aileen Wiseman Baldwin, 89 of Raleigh, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 21, 2014, at her residence in Raleigh.
Jewell was born in Eldorado on Jan. 6, 1925, a daughter of the late August Joseph "Gus" and Effie May (Upchurch) Mathieu. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Social Brethren Church of Raleigh where she taught Sunday School for several years, was secretary and treasurer for the church, and also church camp treasurer for many years. Jewell had a love for quilting, cooking, gardening and many other hobbies.
Jewell was the wife of the Rev. Glen Wiseman for 51 years. He passed away June 6, 1993. Six children were born to this union. She later married Harrel Baldwin on July 31, 1999.
Jewell is survived by three sons: Glendal Ray Wiseman of Eldorado, Jerry Dale (Karen) Wiseman of Galatia and Ronald Gene Wiseman of Raleigh; two daughters: Brenda Jewell Couch of Raleigh and Donna Kay (Robert) Kimmel, also of Raleigh; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson: Trinity Wiseman. Also surviving are two sisters: Wilma Shelton, June (Jerry) Bean; one daughter-in-law: Charlene Wiseman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son: Clyde Dean Wiseman; three brothers: Edward, Joseph and Charles Mathieu; two sisters: Madoline Arnold and Ruth Brook; one son-in-law: Richard Holly; and two daughters-in-law: Joann and Carol Wiseman.
Funeral services will be held at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery in Raleigh. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to Mt Pleasant Social Brethren Church.
