Obituary for Frank A. Johnson

STEELEVILLE - Frank A. Johnson, 68, of Steeleville, passed away at 12:34 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Frank was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on September 4, 1947, the son of Leonard and Catherine Kamarit Johnson.

Frank was a lifelong Union Carpenter and Millwright, who traveled extensively for his work.

He spent time in the Dominican Republic and working on the Alaska pipeline. He enjoyed traveling throughout his life.

He was active in his church, Landmark Apostolic in Sparta. Frank was also active in politics and enjoyed woodworking with is grandsons and various artistic projects around his house.

He was a member of the WXAN radio family. Frank was a huge sports fan and season ticket holder to the St. Louis Rams.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Candace Birdsong of Chester, IL, Amanda Johnson of New York, NY, and Brandena Johnson of New Orleans, LA; two grandsons, Otis Samb and Noah Samb; parents, Leonard and Catherine Johnson of Steeleville; sister, Leonarda Harper of Steeleville; Friend and mother of his children, Linda Fortner of Chester; and countless friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Douglas Rice officiating.

Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, on Saturday where friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research to honor his daughter and mother or the Landmark Apostolic Church.
