Kiwanis Club hears from Wilson Kitchens

Blake Wilson of Wilson Kitchens Inc. was guest speaker at the Kiwanis meeting on Jan. 11. Wilson told the group that this is a third-generation family business that was begun with his grandfather in the garage behind his house. The business grew to the point that a larger building was necessary. During the 1980s residential kitchens were the focus, Wilson said. However, as the business expanded, they began to do more commercial work, and today 99% of their work is for commercial entities through a general contractor. Even though they maintain around 40 employees, he indicated that it is difficult keeping a labor force. Over the years, technology and automation have certainly been an asset in processing and building their products. Although they produce a high percentage of commercial products, they still make custom desks, counters and other items.
