Saline County Fairgrounds hosts 4-H General Show
The Saline County 4-H General Show was held on Saturday, July 13 at the Saline County Fairgrounds Floral Hall. 4-H members showed their talents to the judges as they exhibited a wide variety of projects.
4-H Cloverbuds (youth ages 5-7) brought some excellent projects to the General Show. Cloverbuds participating this year were Jasper DeNeal, Lydia Hafele, Logan Little, Emily Pluta, Hattie Vaughn and Justus Whitlock. These Cloverbuds received a participation ribbon and a coloring book and crayons.
State Fair ribbons were awarded to Garrett Arnold (Woodworking 2), Wyatt Arnold (Electricity 2), Seth Brown (Horticulture - Vegetable Display), Emma Carlile (Horticulture - Vegetable Display, Visual Arts - Chalk/Carbon/Pigment-Division A), Marissa Cullers (Horticulture - Vegetable Display, Photography 3), Ellie DeNeal (Civic Engagement 1, Creative Writing - Poetry, Geology - Rock Hounds 1, Family Heritage), Abigail Draper (Forestry 1, Visual Arts - Leather), Abbey Elders (Scrapbooking - Beginning), Andrew Grizzell (Floriculture A) and Karson Little (Entomology 1, Natural Resources 1, Sportsfishing 1).
Also receiving State Fair honors were Laney Mondino (Health - Innovation), Raylan Murphy (Animal Science 2), Addison Pearcy (Visual Arts - 3/D Mixed Media, Visual Arts - Plastic), Brady Pearcy (Aerospace - Model Rocketry, Electricity 1, Visual Arts - Metal), Darby Pearcy (Entomology 1, Visual Arts - Clay,), Lillian Siler (Floriculture A, Photography 2, Visual Arts - Chalk/Carbon/Pigment-Division A), Avery Stevens (Woodworking 4, Visual Arts - Paper 3/D, Visual Arts - Plastic, ) Elliot Tanner (Aerospace-Model Rocketry), Benjamin Vinyard (Forestry 1, Geology - Pebble Pups 1), Caleb Wenzel (Sportsfishing 2), Hannah Wenzel (Veterinary Science, Visual Arts - Fiber, Visual Arts - Heritage Arts), Hallee Whitlock (Photography 1) and Jaynee Whitlock (Visual Arts - Nature).

County Champion Ribbons are awarded when there is no State Fair exhibit opportunity. County Champions this year are Marissa Cullers (Do Your Own Thing - Civic Engagement, Softball), Caleb Wenzel (Collectibles) and Hallee Whitlock (Collections - Coins).
We would like to thank the Saline County Fair Board for providing the location for our General Show, the volunteers who served as judges and our 4-H families and dedicated club leaders for all you do all year long.

Local dogs turn out for Saline County 4-H Dog Show
The Saline County 4-H Dog and Cat Show was held on July 16 and July 18. The location for the Dog Agility Show and Rally classes on Tuesday, July 16 was instructor Cheri White’s agility field.
Rally is a State Fair-recognized class for Dog exhibitors, and participants must score 70/100 points to advance. Seven State Fair ribbons were earned. Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit qualified for State Fair in the Rally Intermediate class with a 98.
In the Rally Novice class, Seth Brown and Zippy (92), Garrett Arnold and Skittles (91), Kaydence Heberer and Charlie (91), Makayla Miller and January (85), Wyatt Arnold and Sophie (79), and Abbey Elders and Obi (78) all qualified for State Fair. Rounding out the class was Kaydence Heberer and Otter.
Dog Agility participants are divided into categories according to their experience, the size of their dog, and the height of the jumps. County Champions in Dog Agility were:
Advanced Beginner 12 Inch County Champion - Hannah Wenzel with Biscuit.
Graduate Beginner 12 Inch County Champion - Kaydence Heberer and Charlie with a perfect score. 2nd place - Wyatt Arnold and Sophie. (Wyatt and Sophie had the fastest time of the night with 46.33 seconds, just edging out Garrett and Skittles at 48.40 seconds.) 3rd place - Seth Brown with Zippy. 4th place - Abbey Elders and Obi.
Graduate Beginner 8 Inch County Champion - Garrett Arnold with Skittles with a perfect score. 2nd place - Makayla Miller with January.
Graduate Beginner 4 Inch County Champion - Makayla Miller and Rosey with a perfect score.
Beginner 12 Inch County Champion - Oaklee Klope and Jax. 2nd place - Kaydence Heberer with Otter.
Beginner 8 Inch County Champion - Ellie DeNeal and Taffy. 2nd place - Bryden Stricklin and Tucker. Ellie and Bryden had a tie score and the County Champion was determined by time. 3rd place Addy Oglesby and Sassy.
On July 18, exhibitors competed in Cat Care, Dog Care, Dog Showmanship and Dog Obedience at the Saline County Fairgrounds Sam Stafford Building.
Dog Care County Champions were Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit (Senior Dog Care), Garrett Arnold and Skittles (Intermediate Dog Care), and Jaynee Whitlock and Star (Junior Dog Care). Cat Care County Champions were Allie Murphy and Alani (Senior Cat Care) and Raylan Murphy and S’Mores (Junior Cat Care).
A State Fair ribbon for Senior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Wyatt Arnold. Hannah Wenzel received the State Fair Alternate ribbon. A State Fair ribbon for Junior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Garrett Arnold. Kaydence Heberer received State Fair Alternate honors.
First time Dog Obedience participants competed in the Pre-Obedience Rally A class. Rally A County Champion was Addy Oglesby with Sassy.
Saline County 4-H youth were very successful in the Dog Obedience classes this year. In order to qualify for State Fair, youth must earn at least 170 out of a possible 200 points. In classes where no member earns adequate points, the top scorer receives a County Champion ribbon.
The County Champion ribbon for Beginner Novice 1 went to Abbey Elders with Obi. Beginner Novice 1 is not a State Fair eligible class. The Beginner Novice 2 County Champion was Seth Brown with Zippy. Garrett Arnold and Skittles received the County Champion ribbon for Preferred Novice.
Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit earned a State Fair ribbon in Novice 1 with a score of 190.
