2019 Fourth of July roundup

If you play your cards right, you can hit multiple fests and fireworks shows over the Fourth of July holiday.

Carbondale fireworks: 9:15 p.m. Thursday, July 4 on the SIU campus. Parking will be available at the Arena lots. In the event of rain, the city's fireworks display will be held Friday, July 5. Free.

Cave-in-Rock Fire/Rescue Fourth of July Bash: 6-10 p.m. Thursday, July 4 on the riverfront. Concession, live music, fireworks at dusk.

Carterville Fourth of July: 7-10 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Cannon Park, 212-298 Cannon Drive. Food vendors open at 7 p.m., fireworks begin about 9 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets. Rain date is July 5. Free.

Christopher fireworks: Dusk, Thursday, July 4 in Dennison Park. Free.

Du Quoin fireworks: Dusk, at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Free.

Eldorado July Fourth Celebration and Fireworks: 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Eldorado Sports Complex, 2214 N. Main St., Eldorado. Sponsored by Eldorado Men's Club. Local DJs, bounce houses, food vendors, Dollars for Scholars 5K Walk and Run; live entertainment from the Last Call Band. Fireworks start about 9 p.m. Free admission. Equality Firecracker Festival: 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4 at Cardinal Park. Fair food, live music from the Reunion Band with guest Ridge Chappell; free flags to the first 60 kids; fireworks at dusk.

Golconda Independence Celebration: 5-10 p.m., Friday, July 5 on the courthouse lawn in downtown Golconda. Free concert by our own Mason "Little Hank" Ramsey, at 6:30 p.m. Bouncy houses, games, food and drinks, horse and buggy rides. 8:30 p.m. lighted boat parade on the Ohio River; 45-minute fireworks show begins about 8:45 p.m. Info: (618) 683-3341.

Goreville Freedom Fest: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Goreville City Park. Live entertainment, Fourth of July parade, kids fun zone, food vendors, more. Free admission. No alcohol on festival site. Info: Jason Beckmann, (618) 751-0785.

Hardin County Heritage Festival: 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, July 6, on Main Street in Elizabethtown. Celebrates the county's rich heritage and history with period activities, including an 1800s outdoor play, pageant, quilt show, duck race, area craft, food vendors, the Fireman's BBQ, a period ball, a Regal Women's Tea and fireworks.

Harrisburg Fourth of July: Dusk, Friday, July 5, at Saline County Fairgrounds, 200-598 Dorris Heights Road, Harrisburg.

Herrin Fourth of July: 6-10 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Herrin City Park. Live music 6-9 p.m. at the band shelter by Cat Daddy-O. Concessions available. The swimming pool at the Harrison Bruce Aquatic Center will be open 6:30-10 p.m. for a night swim. Baseball and softball games played throughout day. Fireworks start about 9 p.m. Free admission and parking.

Johnston City Fireworks Spectacular and Festival: 5-11 p.m. Friday, June 28 at Arrowhead Lake Amphitheater, 1600 Peterson Ave., Johnston City. Live bands start at 5 p.m., food vendors, bouncy houses, and games for the kids, all leading up to the big fireworks display starting at 9:15 p.m. Info: (618) 983-3535.

Liberty Bell of the West Patriotic Ceremony 2019: 1 p.m. Thursday, July 4 at the Fort Kaskaskia Main Shelter House, 4372 Park Road. Bring a bell and join in as Bells Ring for Liberty during the ceremony. Dr. David MacDonald' book, "Kaskaskia, The Lost Capital" will be available.

Marion Fourth of July: 6-10 p.m. Thursday, July 4 at the Marion Knights of Columbus grounds, 1601 W. White St. (just off West Boulevard). Carnival rides, food vendors, with fireworks getting underway at dusk. Free admission, but Knights of Columbus are asking for donations.

McLeansboro fireworks: Dusk, on Thursday, July 4, at Lake McLeansboro. Free.

Murphysboro fireworks: Dusk Thursday, July 4 at Riverside Park. Food sales, live music, fireworks at dusk. Free.

Red Wine & Brews Celebration with Car, Truck & Bike Show: 2-10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 at Walker's Bluff, 326 Vermont Road, Carterville. Antique and muscle car show; live music, fireworks at dusk. $15-$20. walkersbluff.com.

Rend Lake Fireworks Festival: 4-10 p.m., Saturday, July 6, at Rend Lake Spillway, Benton. Petting zoo, inflatables, West City Fire Department smoke house, live entertainment, food, drinks, face painting, local vendors and fireworks. Bring lawn chairs, coolers, and blankets. Fireworks start about 9 p.m. Four parking areas: the Spillway; Dam West; South Sandusky and North Marcum. $5 parking fee goes toward event costs. Info: www.bentonwestcitychamber.com.

Shawneetown fireworks: Dusk, Thursday, July 4 at Shawneetown City Park. Free.

Steeleville Fourth of July Festival: Thursday, July 4 on the grounds of the Steeleville American Legion, 303 S. Chester St. The annual fest features a parade, craft show, carnival, food and drink stands, laser tag, dunking booth, live music, a vintage baseball game, the Firecracker 3K run, fireworks and more. Fireworks at 10 p.m. July 4.

West Frankfort fireworks: Deep dusk, Friday, July 5, at the West Frankfort City Park. Free admission and free parking. (618) 937-1665.
