OBITUARY: George William "Bill" Adams
George William "Bill" Adams, 88, of Shawneetown, passed away at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi 11:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014.
He was born to Raymond and Mae (Mayfield) Adams on May 18, 1926, in Ridgway. Bill married Evelyn Elaine Thompson on June 3, 1950, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2009. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired after 25 years as a Illinois State Trooper. Also, he was a member of the Shawneetown First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
He is survived by two daughters, Susie Adams of Shawneetown, Marsha Meiners and Steve Coriasco of Marion; two sons, Kevin and Carol Adams of Round Pond, Maine, Jeff and Rhonda Adams of Shawneetown; one sister, Virginia "Jenny" Drone of Ridgway; 11 grandchildren, Matt, Amy, Klay, Katie, Deana, Callie, Lindsay, Jackie, Sean, Garrett and Wyatt; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Joseph, Zoe, Zac, Tyler Ranee, Lilly, Cora and Kaleb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, John Quincy Adams, and sister, Pauline Wheatley.
Visitation for Bill will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, with the Rev. Wade Halva and the Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality with military rites by Ridgway American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
