Nedra Elizabeth Presswood

Nedra Elizabeth Presswood, age 92, of Centralia, died at 10:02 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia.

She was born on July 28, 1920 in Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Alva and Edna (Eckert) Mann. Nedra married Everett Arthur Presswood on Sept. 21, 1944 in Columbus, Kans. and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2003.

Mrs. Presswood is survived by sons - Dr. Gary Presswood and wife (Kirby) of Las Vegas, Nev., Mel Presswood and wife (Janet) of Dallas, Tex. and Dr. Alan Presswood of Centralia; grandchildren - Shelly Joslin, Jenny Heese, Jess Presswood all of Las Vegas, Nev., Christopher Presswood of Tinley Park, Ill., Lindsey Presswood of Dwight, Ill., Ian Presswood of Centralia, Lee Presswood, Alexes Presswood both of St. Peters, Mo., Darrell Edmison of Las Vegas, Nev. and Bart Edmison of Opdyke, Ill.; 17 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband , brother - Nelson Mann and granddaughters - Angie and Glori Presswood.

She had owned and operated Nedra's Beauty Shop for over 22 years in Du Quoin and Centralia. She moved to Centralia in 1961 from Du Quoin. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the New Comers Organization, Catholic Daughters and was an avid bridge player. She was the Queen of the Presswood Palace which was a name given to her home where the KnightBeats practiced and music lessons were taught to many local musicians during the early stages of Centralia's Rock and Roll scene during the 1960's. She was the matriarch of the Presswood Family, who has performed music in the Southern Illinois area over the last 50 years.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Justin Olisaemeka, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia.

In the spirit of the Presswood Tradition, the family would like to invite everyone to the Celebration of Life with musical entertainment at Bogie's on The Lake at the Meadowood Country Club at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, by the Presswood Family and Friends as a final tribute to their Mother's wishes.
