OBITUARY: James Gordon Simpson

James Gordon Simpson, age 81, of Harrisburg, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

James was born on Monday, Feb. 20, 1933, in Harrisburg, to the late Hubert and Virgie (Belt) Simpson. James married the former Carol E. Larsen on Oct. 5, 1963, and she survives in Harrisburg. James worked in retail sales for 45 years, starting at S.S. Kresge's, and later at K-Mart, he was a member of BuenaVista Community Church of Harrisburg.

James is survived by his wife Carol of Harrisburg; daughter, Cindy Sue Bergman and husband Craig of Mason City; brother, Troyce Simpson and wife Linda of Harrisburg; brother, Jack Simpson and wife Linda of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Simpson, Johnny Simpson, Roy Simpson; sisters, Wilma Gulley, Doris Hughes, Mabel Ruth Simpson, Helen Gulley, Naida Rose and Mary Berkel.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Ingram Hill Cemetery. The Rev. G.E. Coultas and the Rev. Roy Hughes will officiate. Friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to BuenaVista Community Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
