Charles Edward Rice

Charles Edward 'Beaver' Rice, 55, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at the St. Louis University Hospital.

Beaver had a passion for farming and other agriculture endeavors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, a member of District 300 School Board, volunteered with Special Olympics and was a dedicated coach. He was a fun-loving person who was dedicated to his family, friends and community.

Beaver was born on Sept. 26, 1959 in Du Quoin, Ill. the son of Harold and Ara Jean (Hartsock) Rice.

He married Judy Slatery on Oct. 8, 1988 in Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife Judy Rice of Du Quoin, two children - Cassidy Rice of Du Quoin and Ara Joseph 'A.J.' Rice of Du Quoin, father - Harold Rice of Du Quoin, brother - Rudy Rice of Du Quoin, two sisters - Leanna Depue of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jane Bailey of Chelsea, Ala. and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, step-mother - Dolores Rice and sister - Judy Rice Cernkiovich.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Du Quoin and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to his children Cassidy and A.J.'s College Fund and make checks payable to Judy Rice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
