VIDEO: Disney Channel Introduces Same-Sex Couple on Good Luck Charlie
Good Luck Charlie made history on Sunday when the show introduced the first-ever same-sex couple ever to appear on a Disney Channel series.
On Sunday's episode, parents Amy and Bob Duncan (Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer) set up a playdate for preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) and one of her new friends, Taylor. Amy and Bob became confused about whether Taylor's mom is named Susan or Cheryl only to learn that Taylor has two moms, one named Cheryl (Lilli Birdsell) and one named Susan (Desi Lydic).
"This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors," a Disney Channel spokesperson told TV Guide Magazine last June. "Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."
