Prep Softball: Harrisburg beats Eldorado in extra innings
A comeback wasn't in the cards for Harrisburg Saturday as the Bulldogs couldn't overcome early game errors and dropped a 3-2 contest to Union County, Ky., for their first loss of the season.
The Bulldogs (11-1) had four timely errors that cost them runs in the first and fourth innings.
Harrisburg scored two runs in the seventh when Layla Borders doubled with two outs, followed by a Liza Wiggins single, putting runners at first and third.
Borders scored on a wild pitch and Hannah Jones (pinch running for Wiggins) scored from second after Sidney Neal struck out on a dropped third strike, Jones scored from second as the throw to first got away.
Harrisburg had a chance when Kerrigan Payne hit a laser beam to centerfield that was caught for the third out with Neal standing on second.
Payne took the loss in the circle, going the distance and giving up three runs (all unearned) on six hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Wiggins was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Abby Stacey, Payne and Borders all had one hit.

It took an extra inning, but Harrisburg pulled out a 4-3 win over rival Eldorado Friday afternoon.
The winning run for the Bulldogs came courtesy of Kinzleigh Smothers, whose lined shot to third resulted in an error, allowing Sidney Neal to score from second.
Harrisburg scored two runs in the first and added a run in the third. Eldorado capitalized in the sixth, scoring three runs.
Payne got the win in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out four and walking one.
Hallie Kate Oldham took the loss for Eldorado (2-3) allowing eight walks and striking out four.
Harrisburg had just five hits against Oldham had Joey Quinn, Neal, Smothers, Stacey and Borders all had on hit.
Stacey and Quinn each had an RBI has Stacey scored Neal and Quinn drove in Smothers on a fielder's choice in the first inning.
Eldorado got contributions from Katelyn Mayberry, Adrianna Hendrix, Kylee Oglesby, Hannah Farmer, Sydney Farmer and Oldham, who all had one hit.
Oldham had a triple with a run scored, while Oglesby had a three-bagger with a run scored and an RBI.
Hannah and Sydney Farmer each had an RBI, while Hannah had a run scored.
