Fire at Kiswaukee Community Hospital damages lab

A hospital laboratory fire caused more than $20,000 worth of damage, but was quickly contained, authorities say.

<p align="justify">Around 3 p.m. Wednesday the microbiology lab at Kishwaukee Community Hospital caught fire. Firefighters used extinguishers and water from a sink in the room to put out the fire within 15 minutes of their arrival, according to a press release from the DeKalb Fire Department.

<p align="justify">Fire officials say an open container of Methanol left too close to an open heat source used to sterilize slide plates caused the fire.

No other areas of the hospital were effected by smoke or fire. No injuries were reported. Lab workers were able to return after fire crews cleared the scene.
